Are oral surgeons MD?!

Question: Don't oral surgeons have to go to dental school, then specialize in oral surgery? So technically they are not doctors right?

Also, do you think it would be great for someone to open up their own practice as an oral surgeon AND orthodontist? Or do you think that it would be better to stick to one or the other? I like both, but would it be hard. Do some oral surgeries take a long time, which would make it hard for the surgeon to atttend to his orthodontist patients? OR do oral surgeries generally not take long?

What can Oral surgeons specialize in? Can they do cosmetic, or they would they have to specialize in that?
Are oral surgeons' jobs a bit tedious, because all they do are pull teeth, or do they do more?
Do you think there will be less need for orthodontists/oral surgeons in the future?

Please answer ALL the questions, thank you.

Oral Surgeons in the US go to 4 years of Dental School for their DDS and then 3+3 years to get an MS in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. 3 years Schooling and 3 years Residency. They are recognized as Doctors. After completing OMFS degree you can do 2 years and become a Plastic Surgeon so Dentistry meets Medicine. Oral Surgeons can practice Surgery as well as any field in Dentistry including cosmetics. An oral surgeon can also do orthodontics subsequently. This would make them highly specialized and then they can do Orthognathic Surgery or Jaw repositioning. There will not be less of a demand for these fields because they are highly specialized and as it is there are less people that are qualified so the demand will remain high.

yes, oral sugeons go thru dental sch, then specialise.. And ALL who pass dental sch with a BDS or DDS are Doctors. Not only medical ppl are doctors ok... (unless some surgeons, medical or dental who are european trained prefer to e called surgeon misters)
Oral surg and ortho r 2 different specialities that sometimes work together, but rarely are they trained in both.. its a lot of work.
And duh, some surgeries take a long time. they do simple stuff like extractions to biopsies to cancer surgeries to facial abnormalities, and yes even platic surgeries. and u dont need to be an oral surgeon to take out teeth. BDS/DDS stands for bachelor/ doctor of dental surgery (depending on where u graduate) and there is a surgical component to that basic degree.
