Why in the last two weeks have I begun tasting salty butter on my lips and gums !

Question: There has been no change in my diet (eat very healthy with freshly prepared foods, no can or boxed items) but we have gone south for the month (mid-west to South of Texas). It happens throughout the day where I will start sensing the buttery/salty flavor leeching from my gum line (base of teeth) and both my upper and lower lip will have the taste on them. I have looked on-line but have not been able to find any searchs that pulls up info on this condition. I'm a 42 year old male. If anyone can direct me to info on-line I would appreciate it. No plans on making a special trip to the doctor for such a pleasant issue.

The crevice between the tooth and gum releases crevicular fluid, which contains a variety of stuff, including antibodies. It's possible ( though this is just speculative), that your body is fighting a particular virus, bacterium, or pollutant that causes a disturbance in the makeup of the crevicular fluid, which comes across as tasting buttery, for you. I've never had a similar complaint, but some have complained about more salty saliva (similar process). It'll probably be temporary, so enjoy it while it lasts.

uhhu...?!

you might be sweating when you sleep, but if not it could be you shampoo, you could also be just sweatting because the climate is different, you cant always see swaet BTW

It is probably sweat

I dont know.

you could be bleeding... or didnt brush ur teeth LOL

maybe your obsessed with getting something that taste like that.

Sometimes sweat or siliva crusts on your lips and that might make the salty taste. Hope i helped.

It could be a vitamin B deficiency or too much salt and not enough water.

First - change those plans!

Okay, now, have you checked that you're (not) bleeding? I know, a 'duh!' question. But the 'duh' questions, never asked, often turn out to be the 'duh' problem/solution!

Maybe you have or are at the beginnings of gingivitis?

Wait - are you still in south Texas - as in, not in the community you know very well? Do they spray pesticides or something? Is a neighbor using a flea powder on his dog that's blowing to your yard?

Are you buying/eating food products from a grocer/store you haven't normally used?

If your gut tells you it's not environmental, I would see your doc. Really.
