Can chewing gum make your teeth shift?!

Question: I had braces as a teenager and ended up with pretty straight teeth - over the last few months, I think I'm noticing a shift in one of my teeth - I chew probably 10-15 pieces of gum a day (I know --but it keeps me from eating!) Could it be connected to my tooth moving?

No it has nothing to do with you chewing gum. Teeth tend to naturally shift. Some people's teeth tend to shift more than others. Your gum chewing habit could give you TMJ problems in the future.

Not unless you're eating some kind of really thick chewy gum.

um wow thats a lot of gum.. and no.. are you wearing your retainer?

I don't think so. I chew gum regularly as well. I have not noticed such a shift.
