On avg. it varies from state to state. Being a more expensive state to live in, NY dentist's will probably charge more than say a KS dentist, which is where I have gotten my info. Here the composite, or white fillings, are more expensive than the amalgam, or silver ones. The cost will also depend on which tooth the cavity is in: a front tooth is cheaper than a back one b/c it's a bigger tooth. In conclusion a front filling should cost aproximately 150-250 dollars. A back filling would probably run any where around 100 upwards to 800. Also, there is the cost of the visit, the xrays that need taken, and hopefully they don't need one, but a root canal is even more. Good luck and hopefully you find a good, but reasonable dentist.

That's a really hard question to answer, and you probably won't get a good response by calling around, either. The problem is that it depends on what the tooth needs. If it is hurting, then it's very possible that the tooth needs more than a filling. It could need a crown, or even a root canal and crown. Your best bet would be to go to a dentist for a limited exam and one xray, then get an estimate on the recommended treatment. You can always get a second opinion if you feel the cost is too high, however most dentists are going to be close in price. Keep in mind that you are paying for a service, not a product. If it were me, I'd be more interested in the dentist's reputation than his fees.

It depends on her situation. Has she thought of getting on the LocalDentist4Less membership? She could save 60% or more. There's no waiting periods and as long as she has an address in the US and a way to pay, she can get benefits.
