Root canal vs tooth extraction?!

Question:

Root canal vs tooth extraction?

My last molar in my mouth on the left upper side needs a root canal. In the past 2 years i have had 10 vaneers put on, 2 wisdom teeth extacted and 15 cavities filled. I really cannot afford the root canal and crown. Since its my very last molar do you think i should go with the extraction?

Answers:

If you can't afford to have the restorative work done, and this tooth is causing you pain, then you should have the tooth extracted. But remember, once the permanent tooth is gone, it's gone, and you'll need to have some kind of bridgework done later should you decide to replace that tooth-- and bridgework is much more costly than just a crown and root canal.

Why not check with a local university dental clinic in your area to see if they can help you? A lot of times these clinics offer reduced-fee services to people in their community. These are dental students, yes-- but they're supervised by licensed dentists for all procedures. Good luck with whatever you decide!
