What can I do for my dental tomorrow??!

Question: I am so nervous! Tomorrow I have to go get three fillings at the dentist's. Please don't tell me, "oh you should take better care of your teeth," it's actually not my fault. My molars are really deep so it's hard to reach every little groove in my teeth, it's my genetics and unfortuantely happened to me. My dentist actually said that there are a lot of tiny cracks that I can't even see and it's impossible to clean. Sucks to be me, I know.

But the problem is, last time I had to get fillings (same reason), I got the shot and it almost made me puke. It's common for the anesthetics to make people nauseaus, but is it possible to prevent this before the appointment? I don't want to go through what I had to last time. Would some sort of herb tablets like stress formulas help? Or is there some sort of herbal tea I should drink, and how soon before the appointment should I drink it?

My appointment's at noon tomorrow, and I'm so nervous! Please answer as soon as possible!

If you think that the local anesthetic affected you, please mention to your dentist. There are different kinds that can be used. But, it could be your nerves getting the best of you. An herbal tea sounds like a wonderful idea! If it will help you relax, then drink it. Check the label to see what effects are expected with it, so you don't drink one that can make you too energetic! It could also make you more nervous. Just relax, and trust your dentist to take care of you.

I have to go to the dentist to tomorrow too.,.. I hate it! every time I get fillings, I don't get shots or anything... ask your dentist if they are really deep cavities, if they aren't, you can do without....

Dont eat before your appointment. i know that SUCKS cuz your appt isnt until noon.... but a lot of people have reactions with the novicain reacting with food in your stomach.

Another option, before the dentist starts... tell him about your experience last time... and ask if there is an alternative. Perhaps you can get NOS.

As for herbal teas.... peppermint is good for nausea, just usually after the fact. Dont know about before. Another thing that can make you nauseas?? STRESS! So... calm down.. it'll be fine!!

I have bad teeth too (not my fault)... last week i had a tooth extracted, two root canals, and gum surgery... and in 2 days! And i still have 4 more root canals, 19 fillings, another extraction, and 3 more gum surgeries. I HATE the dentist too!! But... you gotta do what you gotta do to get better. I have a fear of the sound of the drill.... i carry my ipod and those over the ear headphones.... it helps drown it out a lil.

Yes, before you go you can drink a nice calming tea. Or you could take two ibuprofen. If it is just anxiety, you can ask for laughing gas. I had to get a couple cavities filled, and had laughing gas. I closed my eyes and my mind literally wandered. When I was hearing the drilling, it reminded me of a Mario nintendo game I played like 5 years ago and I just imagined all the players in the game! LOL.

Really, it isn't that bad. Afterwards you will giggle at yourself. Good luck thoug, the dentist can always be scary, but just stay calm and relaxed.
