Why do some orthodontists insist on extractions when there is no crowding?!

Question: This is an old fashioned orthodontic technique to get a sub standard result. When you pull teeth that don't need to be pulled, you are left with gaps and a sunken profile that is aesthetically displeasing and hard on your jaw. There are better ways. Look for an orthodontist who chooses a no extraction method. This is successful in 90 to 95 % of cases and the end result is a fabulous, movie star smile with no gaps and great occlusion(teeth fit together great).

Because they are greedy.

to pull your teeth down and make your smile wider.

You should ask them the exact reason they are suggesting extractions.
If you have a severe over-bite. It may appear right now that there is no over crowding but your maxilla may be too small to move all your teeth back enough to correct the over-bite. I have no idea what your situation is but that could be one possible reason.

Golly gee........there are a couple possibilities.

If they want to extract baby teeth, it is because the X-rays show the adult teeth under the gums are going to be too big for the opening that the baby tooth will leave, thus he is averting a crowded situation.

If it is adult teeth that are not yet completely grown, the X-rays probably show a potential for crowding thus making the teeth crowd in the near future and become crooked.

It is his job to prevent or cure the crooked teeth, repair or prevent an overbite or underbite, etc.

Hope this helps somewhat.

I always tell my patients to feel more than free to ask their doctor (in this case the dentist) any questions they may have. After all, it is THEIR body (or teeth) that is being worked on and they have the right to understand EVERYTHING that is going on to their satisfaction and understanding. OK???

I am an RN

HELLO,
THIS IS BECAUSE AFTER CAREFULLY EXAMINING AND MEASURING THE X-RAYS YOUR ORTHODONTIST BEST DETERMINED EXTRACTIONS ARE NECESSARY.
