An orthodonist told me...what's this called?!

Question:

An orthodonist told me...what's this called?

An orthodonist told me that I have a receding lower jaw and that there is a little metal thing that I can get put under my tongue and like...attached to my jaw or something and it will get rid of my overbite right then BUT will take a couple yrs in order to make it grow or stay that way. What is this stupid little thing called and how much does it cost haha

by the way...its not visible if you're smiling and stuff, only if you lift your tounge up or something.

Answers:

*It is called a Herbst Device or a Herbst Appliance. It is used to promote growth of the lower jaw in a forward direction.

*My son had a Herbst Device for over one year and just recently had it removed. His jaws are aligned now. Success!

*The cost of the Herbst Device was included with my son's total orthodontic bill. So, I am not sure of the cost for the device alone. I do know that it is usually covered by dental insurance if you have any.
