I talk with a lisp after switching to wearing my retainer every night instead of!

Question:

I talk with a lisp after switching to wearing my retainer every night instead of 24/7. Will the lisp go away?

Why do I talk with a lisp now that my retainer is removed? After wearing it 24/7 for the past 6 months after braces, I'm finally just wearing it every night. However, I am talking with a lisp now when I'm not wearing my retainer. I could understand talking funny when I first started wearing the retainer, but now a week after not wearing it during the day? Will the lisp eventually go away?

Answers:

I had the same problem. It is just because you are used to the retainer surface, not the real surface. It is just like when you just got it, give it some time, it should go away.
