Can Sonicare hurt the gums?!

Question:

Can Sonicare hurt the gums?

I think I may have periodontal issues... I've noticed my gums receding gradually and especially between the teeth even though I floss daily, manually brush gently and use a non-alcohol mouthwash - I also rarely consume sugar

I'm not sure what to do... I have a feeling my manual brush may not be getting rid of enough plaque so I bought a Sonicare - but I don't want to hurt my gums with too much pressure.

I planned to use the Sonicare once at night on the lowest level but now I'm not so sure.. I have an appointment with my periodontist in 10 days.. help thanks in advance

Answers:

The sonicare is tooth brush that most periodontists I know recommend. The sonicare has a feature built into it where if you are using too much pressure it will automatically turn off.

The sonicare is also used differently than a regular tooth brush. Instead of moving the toothbrush in a scrubbing motion, leave the head stationary on each tooth and let the sonic vibrations do the cleaning. Make sure to point it at about 45 degrees to get in between your teeth and gums.

The beeper goes off every 30 seconds so move the head slow enough such that it takes 30 seconds to clean one fourth of your mouth.
