Im getting braces today?!

Question: I'm scared

Answers: I'm scared

Getting them put on is nothing...to be totally honest, there is nothing to worry about

um ouuuuch

good luck!

dont be worried. it doesnt hurt for like the first hour. than after that, you can just feel the pain for like 2 weeks. doesnt hurt that much. good luck ,

Ya it's scary. Just take advil after and avoid really cold, really hot, or hard foods for the first day or two. You'll be so glad with the results, and you get used to them after a couple of weeks. Good luck!!!! It's not too bad.

It's the next day that is the tough part. Probably ranked among the ten worst days of my life. Get lots of Jello, Pudding, and Soup.

Dont be. They will only hurt a little for about a week but as long as you take advil or tylenol, you should be fine.
-Good Luck!

Don't worry you will be fine. Getting them on doesn't hurt at all, its very easy. It only takes awhile and the glue tastes bad. Its well worth it for the beautiful smile you will have in the end. Good Luck

don't be scared just of how nice your teeth will be later on, it doesn't hurt when they are putting them on.

Don't be. You can put wax on them if they scratch and you can use numbing gel or a tooth massage thing. Also, take a pain reliever before and after they are put on. Plus, your teeth will be straighter, so think of it as a good thing!!! Lots of people have to get them (I have them), so you're not alone. Good luck!!!

i was really scared too, but i got them and it's fine. it will ache for about a week after, but just eat soft food like rice with pesto, soup, yogurt etc until it stop hurting! make sure you brush your teeth well too. good luck and it will be fine ! :) x

there is nothing to be scared about. i have had my braces for like 4 years. and during that time i had them taken off and put back on. there is nothing to worry about. have fun and pick good colors

I have dentist, my X was a dental hygienist.. I believe she is the devil. Lol

Your going to be fine, take along a friend to hold your hand.. I no time, your going to have a HOT smile .

its not bad but they will hurt a little and your not gonna want to eat hard foods for a while usually if they do hurt really bad only eat like pudding and jello thats what i did and also make sure after you eat there really clean cuz food gets stuck in them and that can be emberressing, (get pretty colors)

Having them put on isn't painful at all. You may experience some discomfort tonight that can be easily taken care of with Motrin or Advil. Follow your dentist instructions and you will do just fine.

Don't be scared it will be cool!!! I had braces and it wasnt so bad.

It's not all that bad.

I had braces for 3 years, retainer prior to that for two years, and have had teeth pulled all my life. By far, it is worse to have teeth pulled. (I'm really freaked out by needles near my face...)

As others have mentioned, take some sort of pain reliever before you go and after you get done. Advil (ibuprophen) or Aleve (naproxen) are probably your best bets, because they are anti-inflammatories. Keep up the advil as often as the bottle says to take it for the first few days.

Your orthodontist will probably give this to you, but if s/he doesn't, either ask or buy some at the store (I think Safeway sells it here in Phoenix, AZ). They sell this wax you can put over the braces so when you get a sore or a cut, the braces don't hurt your lip worse by rubbing. It comes in a little bitty white box a little bigger than a couple of guitar picks. The wax comes in thin cylinders inside and you mold it onto your braces. I found this invaluable at night.

Also, you may want to get some Orajel, which is a topical anesthetic for your mouth. That way, if you get a cut or if your gums hurt, it will relieve the pain at least long enough for you to eat. (I also used it on one occasion that I had a cut on the inside of my front lip that was rubbing against my braces and I had to give a filmed speech for my English class.)

Soup is your friend the first week or so. Safeway sells really good soup in their deli section. I especially like the tomato bisque - it's a little spicy, and nothing to chew. Eat mushy things. If you can stand it (some people get really temperature sensitive the first little while), I liked milkshakes too.

Be careful with the taffy and gum and such. Your orthodontist will warn you about those types of foods. Honestly, I ate 'em anyway - but every time I had taffy, I popped a bracket, which is not good. Not only does it hurt from the scratching as it moves around, it also puts different pressure on the teeth beside the one that broke. You also have to go in and have another one put on, which is a hassle. Doesn't seem like it now, I'm sure, but pretty soon you'll be back to eating regular foods and being tempted by taffy.

Remember - once you have them off, you'll have a beautiful, straight smile! :)

nothin to be scared of !!!

Good for you!

There okay on but 1 day later there sore and they hurt like #^$^$ lol so get some Tylenol, Advil, and Anbesol or ask your dentist for pain meds!

=0 i juust got braces today as well, dont worry its painless, the only pain i felt was in my lips when he put that thing in my mouth to keep it open. i advise you to use some lip balm or vaseline for ur lips befor u go in.

good luck, oh and it feels weird when ur tryna eat.

It doesn't hurt at all getting them on, the next day is a bit uncomfortable but not really painful... Good Luck,,I"ve had them on for 3wks now and I can't even tell they are there..
