What should I expect for comfort/pain control from the dentist during a procedur!

Question: During routine cleaning and also when getting cavities filled.
My cousin told me she was sedated during cleaning but my dentist didn't sedate me during cleaning.

Answers: During routine cleaning and also when getting cavities filled.

she probably had a deep cleaning which can be painful, normal cleanings you shouldn't need anything. Cavities aren't too bad, the shot can hurt a little but a good dentist will keep you as comfortable as possible. It really all depends on your dentist, hope you have a good one.

Novacaine works just fine. Standard cleaning, usually nothing is needed. Scraping under the gums for peridontal treatments, Novacaine.

ASK TO BE SEDATED IF IT WOULD MAKE YOU FEEL HAPPIER IT WOULD ME.

Most will not since it is not required.
You can ask, but I doubt that your dentist will.
I would wonder why a dentist wanted me sedated during a cleaning.

My sister is a Dentist and she tolds me the only time she sadates anyone is if they are deathly afraid of the dentist. For this she usually administers Nitros Oxide. Dentists don't like to use that much anymore because it's dangerous (only in extreme cases). For other treatments she will use novicane but never for cleanings. There are special places that specialize in sedation treatment for all patients and procedures but they are rare.

Ouch! My dentist gives me a shot or two AND also gives my nitrous oxide if I request it (which I do!).
