Wear hole in tooth?!

Question:

Wear hole in tooth?

What exactly is a wear hole on your tooth?

I went to the dentist today to get 2 cavities filled and pointed out to her a shallow hole in one of my lower molers.....she said that it was a wear hole and quickly filled it...what is a wear hole?

Answers:

Due to using your teeth to chew and bite you will (over time) wear your teeth down from them rubbing together. It sounds like that may be what they were referring to. They probably filled it so if you are to keep wearing the area down it will be the filling that gets worn down and not the tooth. Some of my patients have very flattened molar teeth and that can cause them to break or need crowns (caps) to be placed on them at some point. Hope that helps!
