I scrape plaque from my teeth using my fingernails, is that ok?!

Question:

I scrape plaque from my teeth using my fingernails, is that ok?

Answers:

The more plaque that is on your teeth the faster your teeth will decay. If it builds up so much that you can scrape it off with your fingernails, you need to change your eating habits. Most people that this happens to are soft drink sippers or Snackers. Try to limit your soda and snack intake to only with meals.

If the plaque accumulates that fast, your teeth are at risk. You will soon develop rampant decay - especially around the gum line. Those are the hardest kind of cavities to fill and the most likely to go to root canals and extractions.

You need to go to a dentist to have the hardened plaque removed. (plaque that is not cleaned off within 24 hours hardens and becomes impossible to remove by brushing and flossing alone) Then you have to change your diet, or you will lose your teeth.
