Wisdom teeth = swollen face... what do I do!?!
Question: I got my wisdom teeth out yesterday. I am not in a lot of pain, but when I woke up this morning my face was the size of a watermelon! I have to work later today (I'm a waitress) and I don't know what to do.
Right now I have an ice pack, Ibuprofen 800 and Perkeset. Is there anything else I can use to make the swelling go down?
I know you are supposed to smoke, use straws, drink soda because of dry sockets... but will doing these things cause more swelling?
Also, the bottom left gum keeps bleeding although the other ones have stop. Do you think that maybe the stitches are loose?

This is not unusual. DO not smoke. Keep rinsing with an antiseptic mouthrinse such as Corsodyl and warm salty water to drain any infection. Do not worry about the bleeding unless it is constant steady bleeding. A small amount of blood can look alot worse than it is as the blood stains the saliva. Keep going with the Ibuprofen. YOu're bext taking a day or rtwo off work though.
I had my wisdom teeth pulled as well. Continue to take your Ibuprofen....Don't you Dare Smoke or Use Straws...Who ever told you that wants you to be in pain! You need acouple of days off of work. Call in, and tell them what is going on. Call a medical doctor, and ask them what else would help the pain. What Anne said, with the rinsing is really good.
You sound like you're a mess.?
Why not stay home for a day, tomorrow will be more of
a bright sun shiny day?
If you must work, keep the ice pack on and Tylenol might be
better. Why is you face swelling anyway? Is your face infected?
Use some Listerine.....
Did the dentist beat your face up?
Reason I ask is because,
I had a dentist make my lips and half of my face black and blue,
because he was too rough with me?
Some are inexperience and all they do is yank and pound.
Because they think that they are doing a cheap job. I'm still having issues with a nerve after 15yrs. (root canal)
I just got my wisdom teeth taken out last Friday (the 18th) and I am still swollen! After the first day, don't ice it anymore, use heat. I got a heating pad and just laid it on my face for 20 minutes, and then 20 minutes off. That really helped too. The Ibuprofen will actually help with the swelling as well. You really should have taken a couple days off, just to heal. I had the surgery on Friday, then had the weekend off, and then Monday for the holiday, and I am still sore and a little swollen. It takes a while for it to heal. Best of luck to you!
