Black Tongue?!

Question:

Black Tongue?

has anyone ever woke up with a black tongue...what the hell is it?

Answers:

There are a few things that can cause your tongue to turn black. One is a fungus infection, sometimes caused by antibiotic use--the medication kills all the normal bacteria that live in your mouth, leaving an opportunity for other organisms to grow.

Another is a reaction to the bismuth in Pepto-Bismol or similar compounds.

Or you could have "black hairy tongue" (glossophytis), which is supposed to be normal but sounds nasty. Some authorities say it is caused by a fungus, which would mean it is the same as the first explanation. You may be able to get rid of it by brushing or scraping your tongue.

I'd suggest checking out the links below, and if you can't get it to go away or just don't feel like living with it, then see a dentist or medical doctor.
