Having an infected tooth or infected gums/gum disease increases the amount of bacteria/etc. This can easily spread into your blood stream through regular brushing, flossing, eating, etc. Letting all that extra bacteria/etc. go straight to where ever it wants and many times that is your heart and it can cause serious problems
