Dentists/Dental nurses I need your help!?!

Question:

Dentists/Dental nurses I need your help!?

I am applying to be a student dental nurse at the Eastman Dental Hospital in London and was wondering if any dentists/dental nurses out there could tell me what qualities they look for or what makes a good dental nurse?

Answers:

Hey you, I'm so pleased your applying for the position of D/N, welcome to the wonderful world of saliva ejecting!
What qualities does a good D/N have?
as a d/n you are normally the patients first contact when they enter the surgery, so you need to look neat/tidy at all times, uniform crisp/ironed, hair tied away from the face, make up if worn should be kept to the bear minimum and no jewellery/wrist watches!
You need to able to put patients at ease, so a calm but confident vocal tone is good, and people skills are a huge must, as you will be meeting people from all walks of life and need to be able to communicate with them on all levels.
In the surgery you need to be able to work quickly, and always be one step ahead of your dentist, once you get into a working routine with your dentist it will become 2nd nature for you to know what he/she wants before they even ask.
Be able to take constructive criticism, sometimes if the dentist is running late with a patient, you may find yourself in the firing line, you may be told that the Zinc Phosphate you have just mixed for Mrs Jones crown fit was'nt mixed correctly or the Alginate for Mr Smiths upper impression had air bubbles in it and has to be redone, dont take it to heart, it'a all part of the learning curve!
Once you have been nursing for a while, your new found skills and confidence will give you a real boost, you'll understand what the dentist is talking about, and you'll find yourself automatically answering patients questions instead of waiting for the dentist to answer for you.
I hope this has been of some help, and if theres anything else i can help you with, just ask!
Good luck and i keep my fingers crossed that you get the job!
