Swollen Gums and Pain behind wisdom teeth?!

Question:

Swollen Gums and Pain behind wisdom teeth?

Well, I have had slight pain from behind my wisdom tooth, specifically on the gums, on the right side for about a week, however I woke up today and the pain although not a constant pain does not allow me to swallow or bite anything if I open my jaw to much, pretty much and slight movement really hurts. Now, I first got my wisdom teeth at the age of 15 and am now 19 and have never had any real problems with pain such as this, even when my wisdom teeth were coming in. Does anyone have any recommendations? Or any idea as to what may be causing it? What should I do? Should I visit my dentist about this?

*note: i do have an a-symmetrical jaw. don't know if that may help or not.

Answers:

Sounds like you have an infection in your gums. If you have dental insurance go to the dentist, if you don't go to the doctor. You need to be on an antibiotic if you want the pain to go away. Try swishing your mouth with warm salt water every four hours in the meantime to help with the pain.
