Why do they say avoid carbonated sodas after an extraction?!

Question: I had on the lower left side of my mouth a molar and wisdom tooth extracted and Im nervous..
Im scared to eat, sleep, drink, sneeze , talk or anything for that matter.. B/c Im so scared of getting a dry socket..
How can I prevent this? Will drinking a soda cause a dry socket? Im wanting something carbonated b/c Im freaking sick to my stomach.. ugh

The carbonination can dislodge the blood clot, as well as sucking through a straw, smoking, vigorous rinsing. Try some juice, koolaid, gatorade or eating something soft or soup. Might help calm your tummy and then try to get some sleep or chill in front of the tv. Don't worry about the dry socket unless your a smoker, or don't follow the post op instructions.
Hang in there!

When did you have the extraction ? I've had about 5 teeth removed since the start of last year and I have only been told to keep off it for about 24 hours, after that I don't think it makes much of a difference.

(Not a professional, so could be wrong)

cuz if something were 2 get up in there-it would make dry socket! and soda bubbles are easy to get in there. and it hurts like heck. also no sucking out of anying. no sucking slurping etc

dry socket is formed when the clot in the socket gets disrupted. Yes it is advisable to avoid fizzy drinks to avoid disrupting . This is most imp in first 24 hrs. After 24 hrs u can have anything. Also avoid smoking, spitting especially on first day.
