I had braces from grades four to eight. I had them taken off right before high school.

It's okay to feel scared, but try not to fret too much. Having braces didn't really hurt so much for me. Maybe they did when they were first put on but I really don't remember. It was a long time ago.

If picking colors alone is not enough to calm you down, then remember this: when your braces are taken off you are going to have beautiful straight teeth. I got my braces taken off over ten years ago and I still get compliments on my smile.

Do they still have glow-in-the-dark braces? You should so get those. I always wanted them but my mum wouldn't let me get them!

Do you know how long you have to have them for?

And don't listen to Takno. Even if you are a guy it is still normal to feel scared. But since your name is Abby I think it's safe to assume that you are female. ^_^

PICK COLOR WHITE
they do hurt first 3-4 days
you won't be able to eat
so drink a lot of soup
you get them periodically tightened which hurts too, pain lasts for about 1 day
But after you get them off
You'll be bangin
And you better be a girl, cuz if ur a guy, ur a *****

the actual process of installing the braces doesn't hurt, and you don't feel much. However, the braces are designed to move your teeth in, and that process, a few hours after the installation is what hurts. I've had them and the first two days was very painful for me (sorry, to say). But after the 2nd day, the pain's gone. A little of the pain comes back about every month when you tighten it.

They do hurt as they are there to stretch your jaw, but it's for the better of your teeth. Don't be scared though, you'll get use to it.

And pick pink =]

DO NOT pick white, they will only make your teeth look stained yellow. I would go with silver, or if you have a fun, outgoing personality pick fun colors. Just don't get white, yellow or clear.

Now for the pain....Take your recommended ibuprofen dose for the pain before your appointment, just let your orthodontist know. Then you may want to continue taking ibuprofen for the next couple of days until the pain subsides. Also, whenever you get your braces tightened take ibuprofen.

You may also want to buy ortho wax. You put a small amount over your brackets, to prevent them from causing canker sores.

Make sure you maintain good oral hygiene! If you don't effectively remove the plaque and food off of your teeth and brackets, it could result in permanent white spots when your braces are removed ---> this is know as enamel decalcification. This is really important and when I had braces I wish someone would have told me about this! (Although I should have know to brush after every meal anyway!)

EDIT: Braces do not "stretch" your jaw! They reposition your teeth by moving the teeth into the correct position. (Bone is broken down and new bone is formed. Also, the roots of your teeth are resorbed from all of the external pressure. But when the braces are removed the roots will "grow" back to their normal size)

don't get white get blue it makes Ur teeth look white. My teeth hurt for 4 days. i like blue and pink lol

Don't worry, it doens't hurt at all when they put them on! I won't lie to you, it usually starts to get sore an hour or 2 later though.
Right when you leave the orthodontists take 1 or 2 tylenol though so it has a chance to kick in.

Ew, don't pick white or clear, by the end of your 4-6 weeks, they're all gross colored and stained! I personally liked hot pink and limegreen! Watermelon colors!

Drink lots of soup and eat soft things for your first 3 days or so. It'll hurt probably up to 4 days. More or less.

Been there, done that, your gorgeous teeth will be your reward!
