Lump on gum ?!


Question: yesterday i noticed a lump on the outside of my top gum .. like up against my cheek. its back by my last tooth .. kinda where my wisdom teeth should be coming in. it hurts really bad , almost feels like a canker sore except i've never had a canker that big before. i cant get to the dentist any time soon so i was wondering if anyone might be able to tell me what it could be? thankss =]

Are you at that age where your wisdom teeth are due to surface? If so, then chances are it might just be swelling from getting ready to teeth. If you're not, then it could be a couple of things. First just a plain old mouth sore, of which gargling with salt water will help, or the start of an infection, such as an abcess forming. If you start to get intense pain with it, then you'll need antibiotics. Meanwhile, get to gargling, warm salt water 3-4 times a day and you can also gargle with Listerine for antispetic purposes.
