Bridge or Implant?!

Question:

Bridge or Implant?

What is better to get an implant or bridge after having a tooth extracted? Is one more cost effective, etc. than the other? It is on tooth number 14 so I will have a visible gap there. Any advice would help.

Answers:

It's well and fine to say "Implant is best," but the folks above are giving you incomplete advice.

Here is my professional advice, which I am qualified to give as a licensed dentist:

The problem with replacing tooth #14 with an implant is that most people have very little bone in that area (right above it are your sinuses). If you don't have enough bone there, you will need major surgery to augment the bone there (Caldwell-Luc Sinus Lift + bone graft), with no guarantee that the graft will take. You need ideally 10mm of solid bone to anchor an implant.

You might or might not be a good candidate to receive an implant. You should ask your dentist for an evaluation to see if an implant is an option.

If you don't have enough bone there, then your best bet is the bridge.

Hope this helps.
