Is 1000 mg of CHEPALEXIN to strong of a doses to cure an infection on my gums?!

Question:

Is 1000 mg of CHEPALEXIN to strong of a doses to cure an infection on my gums?

The doctor prescribed me 500 and it has been only a day that I have taken it. Though I dont think is working. The pains is still very storg. So should I take 2 capsules for a total of 1000 or should I go back to get a stronger antibiotic.

Answers:

As a dentist myself I highly recommend that you call your dentist before taking a higher dose of medication. Your dentist prescribed that dose for a reason and you should always follow his/her orders. It usually takes 48-72 hours for antibiotics to actually start killing the infection, if the pain worsens be sure to contact your dentist, he/she may need to prescribe you something stronger but please follow the label directions on this antibiotic and only take the prescribed dosage. Good luck and hope you feel better soon!
