My endodontist thinks I have a fractured root. It is under tooth #2 and is an a!

Question:

My endodontist thinks I have a fractured root. It is under tooth #2 and is an abutement tooth on a bridge.?

Will I have to have it extracted and how will I salvage the four upper right teeth?

Answers:

If there is a root fracture way below the gumlines, yes unfortunately it needs to be extracted. A non-repairable fracture that extends to deep below the gumline will act as a passage for germs to get deep into your gums and jawbone, which is why such a cracked tooth need to be taken out.

Unfortunately, taking out that tooth means you no longer have the tooth necessary to support a bridge. The least expensive and simplest solution would be to get it replaced with a removeable partial denture.

If you want to invest the money, you might try for an implant-supported bridge, but that would be very expensive especially for the upper jaw. The reason why it would be expensive is because most people need to have a Caldwell-Luc Sinus Lift surgery to graft some bone up there in order to securely anchor an implant, and it may or may not work.

Hope this helps, and good luck.
