Yes it does but they sedate you extremely well. It's the aftermath that is the bummer; as you eat with a syringe and everything will be pureed and or liquefied for at least five to ten weeks as your mouth will be wired shut. And yes! it is painful! You will have a period of adjusting ever after as you slowly work your way to eating normal foods. Watch you don't drink too much of the foods as drinking makes you feel like you didn't have much but will get you unwanted pounds unless you're careful... Remember that it takes 20 minutes for your stomach to tell your brain that it is full... And the surgery is worth it! over the insanity of living with TMJ... Take care!
