What's the best option for straighting my teeth?!

Question:

What's the best option for straighting my teeth?

What are my options for straightning my teeth, what are my options and what are the cost?

Answers:

Hi, I am an orthodontic assistant. There are so many options for you... depending on the severity of your crowding, etc.
The price really ranges quite a bit from patient to patient. The treatment and procedures for one patient is obviously not what the next will need. Even children from the same family may have completely different problems. Many things are factors in regard to braces.
Not everyone is an eligible canidate for Invisalign, that is for people with ideal occlusion (the way your teeth bite together) and perhaps crowding. If you have any spacing (gaps) between your teeth you are probably not a canidate. And the downside of invisalign is that it usually takes longer and you will most likely have to do interproximal enamel reduction (shaving off small amounts of your teeth in between) to get all of the crowding out. And many people end up with traditional metal braces at the end to fine tune everything.
I actually have braces right now, too. I have traditional braces on the lower and I have Clarity brackets (tooth colored ceramic) on the upper.
One more thing... I would not have a general dentist do your braces. Many general dentists can do braces, but Orthodontists go through an additional two years of specialized education and residency to have their credentials. It is night and day between what a general and a specialist can do to your teeth.

I hope all of this has helped you make a decision. I am so glad I got braces, it has made me so much more confident to smile and I feel so much better about myself.
