How long do you have to wait after the dentists decide you need to get braces?!
Question: i told my mom when i was 12 that i absolutly didnot want to get braces because i was a big baby and i didnt want my mouth to hurt all day. But now i really dont care because EVRY1 makes fun of me 4 my crooked teeth! lol so i want to get them asap!! i told my mom and shes gunna i guess tell the dentist. how long do you think it will take after they decide to give me braces to actually get braces? I kno u hav 2 get molds and spacers n stuff but how long will tht take?? my brother had braces and he said after the molds he had 2 w8 a month. so how long do u think it will take to get the molds dun n stuff?? and if u hav had them b4 how long did it take 2 get the molds?

well first of all your dentist doesn't put on the braces. you need to find an orthodontist for that.
but once you find a good orthodontist you wil lhave a consultation with them which is just basically diagnosing you and deciding what needs to be done.
after that you will make a follow-up appointment to get done the impressions (molds) and x-rays and all the good stuff. i just got this done this morning. if there is not enough space in between your back molars you will have the spacers put in that day too (also got that done this morning). keep in mind this will be done only if you have already have had necessary extractions done.
then you will make another appointment to get the actual braces put on. in my case, this will be friday. so to answer your question, it takes about 2-7 days from the time of getting your spacers, impressions, etc. to the braces, and whenever you decide to make your follow-up appointment decides how long it takes from the time of finding an ortho to getting the spacers and stuff done.
they'll take a new mold of your mouth anyway. because things might have changed.
and for me it took about 2 weeks to get them on.
just to let you know it hurts when you get them put on.. [not when they do it, but for a few days after] and it hurts for a few days when you get them tightened, but it IS worth it when you get your braces off. :]
I guess gone are the days when you have to wait a whole month after getting the molds or whatever its called. In my case, I got the mold done and in a week's time the ceramic thingys (the things that sit on the teeth) were put on. And then three days later the dentist put on the molar bands and wired the molds/brackets (or again, whatever its called). Just to give you a headsup, getting braces will sore the inside of your mouth like crazy. Hang in there... and more power to the wires! :o)
