Mouth Absess burst?!

Question: I had an absess in my mouth from a wisdom tooth extraction. It was so painful so I went to the health center at my college and she perscrivbed me antibiotics. I didn't get them yet and just 10 minutes ago, the absess burst and I had a mouthfull of pus. It burst so it doesn't hurt anymore but do I stil have to pick up and take the antibiotics? will the infection enter my bloodstreem or stomache through the pus and cause another infection?? HELP!

Yes! You are actually lucky it burst, I had the exact same thing and they told me it was really dangerous. You are less likely to have it spread than if it had not burst. You need to get and take the meds as directed. It will continue to drain. You will know when some drains out. You will have a NASTY taste, and your breath will be HORRIBLE. You could smell mine 3 feet away. It will go away over time, but it will take time for the hole to heal.
Been there! NO FUN!!

You need to wash your mouth out with peroxide several times a day. Make sure you do not swallow that drainage.

Yes, you really need the anibiotics to get that nasty stuff to heal.

Yes, I would take the prescribed antibiotics. Wisdom teeth can be funny things, especially when they are impacted which sounds like it might have been......you might have relief for a few days now it has burst, but it is infection and another absess could form......and you certainly don't want an infection working its way up into your sinuses

Bacteria grow best in environments that they are suited for. The stomach is full of acids that neutralize nearly every bacterium we swallow (H pylori is about the only to survive, but that won't come from a dental infection).
Heavy duty warm salt water rinsing and flushing of the area should help to clear things out without having to subject your body to the rigors of antibiotics. Hang on to the Rx, though, it could come in handy

No you can't get a stomach infection from swallowing that, and it won't enter your bloodstream. The infection is in your mouth, and it could only spread around that area, not to completely different parts of your body. You should definitely take the antibiotics for the abscess; and it is good that it's draining, but do the antibiotics.
