Can an orthodontist take care of an absessed tooth?!

Question:

Can an orthodontist take care of an absessed tooth?

Answers:

Specialists are supposed to limit their practice to their area of specialization, so an orthodontist is not supposed to do endodontics or extractions, even though they do know how to do it, having learned how in dental school.

An orthodontist is supposed to refer abscessed teeth to an endodontist if it needs a root canal, or to an oral surgeon if it needs an extraction, or to a general-practice dentist who can do both.

Hope this helps.
