My tooth hurts so bad and i dont know why.. help!?!

Question: i had to get a filling replaced about 5 weeks ago, and a few days later i had to go back to the dentist because i wasnt biting properly.. so he drilled my filling/tooth down so i have my bite back.

but ever since.. it really hurts when i eat and i cant take it. i went to the dentist last friday and he thinks i was puttin 2 much pressure on 1 corner of my tooth when i was biting down. so he drilled that down. but it hurts when i press it in the middle with anything. i dont hav a hole or anything. i dont hav a clue wat it cud be...

ive heard about tooth abcesses... i cant see anything on my tooth or gums.. is it possible that there is 1 under my filling? or that 1 has developed since he changed the filling? arrgh it hurts so bad when i eat on that side!!

does any1 know wat the prob could be?

It could be multiple things:

Bite is probably ok since you went back already.

The bite adjustment could have exposed some of the sensitive part of the tooth under the enamel.-refill removing the sensitive part and filling with composite.

Could be a bad seal on the filling especially if it is a tooth colored filling (composite).-refill with self etching composite.

The previous bite issue could have caused the ligaments around the root to be inflamed.- should get better each day.

If the filling was close to the nerve- could be the tooth needs a root canal but this it the least likely and should be the last resort not the first as it will fix the problem but is the most agressive and expensive and least likely.

Good luck.

perhaps the root is dying and you need a root canal. The bite still might be high. Did the dentist check with bite paper?

You can't get an abscess under a filling. An abscess would appear on your gums. I don't think the drilling really has much to do with your pain. Do you know if he put a liner and a base in the prep before packing the filling in? It's probably sensitivity due to the lack of liner or something. Pay close attention to when exactly it hurts and try to pin point what is triggering the pain. It's probably more when you eat/drink something hot or cold. If this is the case, I'd call the dentist and tell him that it's sensitive to these things and he/she could do something to get rid of the sensitivity.
