What do they do during root canal at the dentist?!

Question:

What do they do during root canal at the dentist?

Answers:

I just had one yesterday.

The experience was not painful at all, it was actually unusual. I didn't feel anything, I just heard. They put a clamp like thing around your tooth to keep it from breaking while they're cleaning out your canals. The doctor drilled through the tooth to try to get to the canals on my tooth (or so i'm assuming).

Then he got long needle-like things and stuck them in the canal and pushed down and then pulled it back out. He repeated it a few times. I think this was done to clean out the canal. This didn't hurt at all, it sounded like someone using a saw. He did it to the other canal too. It really didn't hurt until he got it in as far as it could go. That's when I felt pain, but just a pinch. No worse then getting injected.

So after he finished with those needle things he got a syringe with a yellow-like solution and he put it in through the canals, I think that's what he did. It smelled like chlorine and some of it escaped down my throat and it burned a bit. I think it was a disinfectant but i'm really not sure. So after he did this a few times he got thin pointy things shaped like a needle. It looked like rubber, but again i'm not sure what it was. He shoved them in the canals and then he melted the ends because I saw smoke coming out of my mouth, haha.

The whole procedure was uncomfortable but tolerable. I expected insane amounts of pain but I barely felt anything.

After whatever it was they injected into my gums wore off I was in a lot of pain. But I got pain killers which really helped out. I really think it depends what your situation is, if there's an infection or something else so I really can't help you there. But that was my experience, I am not a dentist I was just a patient.
