Root Canal Pain?!

Question:

Root Canal Pain?

Heya guys, hoping for some help.

I had a root canal at around 3-4 PM yesterday. I went home and once whatever it was they used to put the area to sleep wore off I was in really bad pain. I assumed it was because of the procedure and it just needed time to heal. I received Ibuprofen 600MG and Amoxicillin 500mg. The Ibuprofen is pretty good, it takes the pain from horrible to tolerable.

I'm thinking it's maybe an infection, i'm not sure. The pain has been going away though. It was really bad yesterday, it's not that bad today. I'm hoping that in a couple of days I won't feel it at all. I will get my crown Tuesday.

Is feeling this type of pain after a Root Canal normal? I feel like maybe it's healing and it is getting better. But yesterday after the procedure and meds wore off the pain was really bad, throbbing. Today it's not that bad but it could be the Ibuprofen I took that's hiding it.

But yeah, just wanted to know if this is normal after having a root canal.

Thanks for the answers guys.

Well the pain isn't that bad anymore, I think it's going away. So I should have no pain at all? I mean, i'm not really sure if it's coming from the tooth to be honest. It might be the gum the clamp was around.

My mom had a root canal done by the same doctor, she said she felt pain when the meds wore off and she felt pain for the next couple of days but it lessened.

If it is the tooth, would it be possible that maybe it just needs time?

Also, I was in excruciating pain before having this procedure done. I went in as an emergency patient. I mean, I had never felt pain like that in my life.

Once they put the area to sleep and did the procedure I felt no pain whatsoever. Just maybe a pinch of pain when they were cleaning out the canal with a needle like object.

The pain i'm feeling is similar to being sore. It's like the tooth is sore or something.

Ok, well it's day three since I got my root canal. It still hurts but it's not much of an ache. I called my dentist, he told me that in a week everything should be fine, possibly even earlier. I'm off the pain killers because the pain doesn't bother me much, it's just a small nuisance.

Thank you for all your help, if anyone has more feedback on this topic please take the time to type something out.

My first thought when I read this was 'why are you getting a crown so soon????'.

After root canal treatment, the tooth needs time to heal, especially if there was a bad infection involved. Healing time can be 2-3 weeks following a root canal procedure, at which time a core or post & core is placed in the tooth prior to any prosthetic work being done...

If you're still uncomfortable, call the dentist that did the root canal and get an appointment to be seen..... and cancel your crown appointment until you're better.
