Will this hurt?!

Question:

Will this hurt?

I had a root cannal and a crown, it only lasted for 6 month. Now my crown broke off with the tooth inside. Do they need to pull the root out to be able to put a screw in and another crown. I just hate to hear a screw driving my skull, does it hurt? is it a major surgery??

Answers:

This situation is really unpleasant, but not so difficult to solve for your dentist. A year ago my mother had the same problem, her crown broke off too. She had surgery just because she had an ugly inflammation at the root. Considering that you don't have any inflammation, it might be possible that you don't even need surgery. If the root is powerful enough they could just put a new screw back there. But in case you need surgery, they will give you a local anesthetizes, so you won't feel any pain, but definitely not make you fall asleep. Remember: if possible don't let the dentist pull your root out unless this is the last option. Nothing can replace a lost tooth. Good luck!
