Dentist Advice needed: after a re-treat on a root canal only 3 months old can the crown be saved?
I Had a root canal 3 months ago on #18 and crowned it. It continued with gum pain inflamation and food was entering a space. They retreated it again by drilling a hole through the truth. I am told they can re-use the cap and patch the hole. Can this be done and will it work as good as when the crown was intact or should I demand a new crown at their cost since the it's been so short a time?

MK...thank you very informative. Here is what happened in short. In February 2007 the office did a RC and crown. From the get go the gums were very sore within a week the tooth hurt upon biting. I complained about it for 3 months. First they suggested a gum issue and asked me to wait until my teeth were irragated and cleaned. After there still was discomfort.
Finally I went to the Edodonist and he suggested a possible root fracture. I went in for the appointment. As he was drilling and working he discovered that the crown was lose. By this time there is a hole. It became obvious as he spoke to his assistant that there was a space also where food was getting trapped and it caused inflamation. The crown was lose enough where he could remonvw it and did. So that's it in a nut shell...Can I still demand a new crown at thier cost? I am assuming yes...
Thank you for your valuable time!

I had the same thing...My doctor made a small access hole in my porcline crown then retreated the root canal then closed the access hole with a composite "white" filling and it's fine no problems...Trust your dentist they know more about your teeth then you do...Good Luck
