Painful Lump on Jaw near extracted tooth site?!

Question:

Painful Lump on Jaw near extracted tooth site?

I had all four of my wisdom teeth pulled, and found out three weeks later, that I had an infection. A week later, after the antibiotics were not working, I had found a painful lump on my jaw bone near the extracted site that was the most difficult. My dentist said it was cellulitis, and that the antibiotics would/should clear it up. I have been on them almost a week now, and nothing. My infection feels better, but my lump is still there and still painful...........
Is it really cellulitis? Could it be something more?

Answers:

Sounds like an abscess to me. Especially if it is hard, very painful to the touch, and throbs. If this is the case, it can be VERY serious.

Any infection in the mouth, teeth, can go directly to your heart. You need to be seen Monday morning by your dentist. If you do not feel like he/she is taking you seriously, by all means, go elsewhere!

Meanwhile, try some OTC pain relievers, and prop you head up a little while you sleep to keep the blood from rushing to the jaw.
