you spray mjouthwash before treatment and wear a medical mask.

diagnos him with halitosis (chronic bad breath) say well i've noticed an odor everytime you have visited lately, i would suggest using (insert certain mouthwash) morning, noon, and night..... maybe he won't take it too harsh then........

just a thought.

You're not a dentist... if you were you would know why your patient had mouth odor, and you would let them know so that you could treat their condition. Ask them to swish with mouthwash before treatment.

If you're a dentist you should have a stronger stomach than that. You should be able to have your face centimeters away from a patient with ANUG without flinching ;)

Anyway it may be better to Dx the cause of the maloder whether caries, GERD, stale food, bad hygeine or whatever and then bring that up and treat it. If you bring halitosis up directly be tactful and offer a solution if possible. You're the one which knows the pt. not us. You should think of what will work for him.
