Please explain the term i)abcessed ii)rot canal what do each involve?!

abscessed= rotten tooth, infected and needs a vigorous course of anti-biotics and possibly extraction or root canal
root canal= involves killing the pulp/root of the tooth and clearing up the infection etc trying to save the tooth
