Laughing Gas is scary for me. What should I do?!

Question: The last time I was under laughing gas for a cavity everything went black for a long period of time and I didnt wake up until the end. It felt like death and it made me feel very scared! The dentist asked me to put my thumb up to see if i was ok and i didn't. They had to ask me about 30 times until i finally heard and did it. I have ANOTHER appointment for a filling in 4 days. Can someone give me a pep talk or something? A little advice on relaxing would be great too!

Sounds like you were given a little too much happy juice!
Can you try to go without it? Most dentists are trying to do away with Nitrous because of side effects and other obvious reasons.
If you are that nervous about going to the dentist, may I suggest asking for a prescription for a muscle relaxer, such as diazapam.
I'm sure that your dentist noted in your chart that you were incoherent for a few moments.
I'm sure if you do opt for the gas that he/she will not give you that much.
There should always be more oxygen than nitrous. Someone should be checking the levels as well.
Having work done on your teeth is not as bad as it may sound.
If I were in your shoes, I would try to do without. You can always ask for nitrous if you feel as though you can't deal any longer!!! :)
I wish you the best!

actually, they used too much. my dentist wants me to be able to hear and respond at all times. you could ask them to reduce the amount for you since you seem to be more sensitive to it than they expected.

It makes me feel like i am on the beach, not even THINKING about the dentist. I love the stuff.

Well if you don't like laughing gas tell the dentist you don't want to use it. You don't need to have it, and many dentists actually prefer that their patients don't go under the gas.

If you want to use it, ask your dentist to keep the levels of laughing gas low. They can decrease the amount of laughing gas and increase the amount of oxygen you're breathing at any time.

um...im pretty sure u dont need laughing gas for fillings...
but if its that painful, just reduce the amount of laughing gas. tell them what happened last time and theyll work with u

You don't normally need laughing gas for fillings, do you?
Personally, I find it much better than the shot of painkiller they usually use - needles in my mouth just make me freak out.
Sounds like they used a little too much though; just tell them what happened last time and they'll recognize how sensitive you are to it.
