Question about Wisdom Teeth removal and tongue piercing?!

Question: Ok I know for a fact someone will say "omg u dumb tongue rings r bad u going 2 die!" So yeah ok but thats NOT MY QUESTION!
My Wisdom teeth are turning sideways and I need to have them taken out, on Monday we're going to try and see if we can get the money for it.
1. How much would it cost? Price range? I need 2 teeth out.
2. Will I need to remove my tongue piercing? Can a dentist on here tell me for a fact if I need to take it out before doing this.
3. I just got my tongue pierced 16 days ago I still have the starter barbell so if my tongue swells I'm fine. But will my tongue swell?

That's all I have to say so feel free to give me a nice answer or earn 2 point by insulting my personal choices. Sorry to sound rude but I've been asking for advice a lot on here about piercings and I've gotten some really cruel responses.. :( You would think I'm a Satan incarnate from the responses I got yeesh.

How much it costs to remove your wisdom teeth depends on their condition, what is required to remove them, who does it, how many teeth are actually removed, and where it's done at. If you have had your teeth for more than a few months, be warned it won't be a pleasant procedure, and will be more involved than one on a person whose teeth haven't come in or haven't been in that long. If it's a straightforward procedure, and a regular dentist can do it in the office, you are looking at a couple hundred. If you need the services of an oral surgeon, the price just went up. If you want to be sedated for the procedure, add a few dollars more, and if it has to be done in the hospital, your wisdom teeth could set you back a small bundle. Exactly how much is something only the dentist or oral surgeon can tell you. Nobody can tell you anything for certain unless they look in your mouth. As far as the piercing, yes, the stud will have to come out before the procedure is done, and probably until at least a week or so passes afterwards. Even under ideal circumstances, there is an infection risk anytime you mess with the mouth and remove teeth. That creates a hole in the jaw the size of the tooth that is removed (if your have roots that it- and if they are in more than a few months, they do). That hole has to make a closure of the gumline to eliminate the risk of infection, a process that takes a week or so. Obviously the stud holds a certain amount of bacteria and food particles, unless you took it out and cleaned it- but as soon as your hands put it back in, well- another dose of bacteria go in with it. Your tongue shouldn't swell from the procedure, but you face more than likely will. Noody will be able to predict how much, not even the dentist, until it's all done and over with. You may swell a lot, you may swell hardly at all. It all depends on how big a job it is to get the teeth out of your mouth. Although at the moment you have two teeth you know about, fact is there are two other wisdom teeth possible, and depending on how those lie, you could be looking at losing four total. That can be done most economically all at the same time, and getting through the misery in one go. For that you would most definitely want to be sedated. They can do an uncomplicated extraction in a dental office using a local anesthetic- but most folks feel much better being somewhat la-la for the removal. Then you will also have a prescription for the pain killers the first few days afterwards, and possibly an antibiotic. That will add to your total cost as well. Now, after you get the quote for the bill from the dentist, you can always ask about payment schedules. Most dentists understand you don't have a cool thousand sitting in the bank waiting. They also don't want you to postpone needed treatment while you are saving, because things won't get better in the meantime. I will also warn you, although I am sparing you the lecture about the tongue stud, the dentist will have to throw in his couple cents worth. Which means he's going to warn you about the damage you can be doing to your front teeth. If the piercing isn't fully healed before the surgery, you will stand a higher chance of infection, both in the extraction sites and the tongue. The dentist will not want to be responsible for that, and will probably tell you so. Just so you know it's likely coming. You can't have it in during the procedure, as it will pose a risk to getting oxygen into you should it be necessary during the procedure. If you have any sort of sedation, obviously it will have to be out beforehand. How soon it can go back in is something you'll have to take up with your dentist, though I wouldn't expect them to want that to happen until you are nearly healed and on full feed again- at least a week in most cases. No matter, if you need the teeth out, that is the most important thing to get done. The situation won't improve in the waiting, and it can and will just get worse. That means a harder time getting them out, more expense to do it, and a harder time in recovery. If it means losing the piercing for the time being, that may be something you have to just live with. You can always have it redone later if you want. Your primary concern is to fix the teeth. Teeth should always come first.

1. Depends on if you have general anesthesia or not. If you have general it is more expensive. Where do you live? Some areas of the country it is more expensive.Call a oral surgeon and ask what is the price. If you have insurance it is also cheaper.
2. Your tongue ring will have to be removed. It is hard enough to get a mouth open wide enough to pull teeth let alone trying to work around a tongue ring.
3. Your tongue should not swell having your wisdom teeth extracted.
Good Luck!

I think the price is going to vary depending on where you live, your dentist and what insurance if any you have. Ballpark, I would guess $200 to remove two teeth. Its possible they want to remove all your wisdom teeth at once. That's what they did for me.

As far as the tongue bar goes, it shouldn't be a factor, but it would be up to your dentist performing the extraction. If it is taken out, don't worry, it wont close and it won't swell. It only takes about an hour to remove the teeth at most. You'll just have lots of gauze in your mouth...

If you are able to keep it in, there should be nothing to worry about.

Good Luck!!!
