Abcessessed Tooth Infection... Please Help?!

Question:

Abcessessed Tooth Infection... Please Help?

I go in to the dentist on July 2 for a root canal. I have an abcsessed tooth. I want to know a few things and I am unable to reach my dentist right this minute. What I want to know:

1. Is there a sure relief from pain if I take antibiotics?
2. Can the pain return after the root canal?
3. Will there be pain during the root canal if I am on antibiotics?
4. Will the antibiotics surely kill the infection while I wait for my apmt?

If there is an endodontist or dentist, or RDA that can advise, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

Answers:

1-The antibiotics themselves will not relieve the pain but they will kill the infection, which will make the pain better. You can take ibuprofen to help the pain until the antibiotics start working.
2-you may have discomfort after the root canal for a bit. Between getting the novacain shot, the clamp that is placed in your mouth for the dental dam, and a bit of discomfort. A root canal is the dentist "scraping" out the inside of your tooth and the nerve and filling it with gutta percha which are small rubber plugs that are packed in where your nerve was. (The dam is placed over your mouth because the dentist will flush out your tooth canal with peroxide and bleach.)
3-you shouldn't feel pain during the procedure-you will be numbed.
4-again, the antibiotics should kill the infection...
