Are your stitches supposed to hurt after you get your wisdom teeth out?!

Question:

Are your stitches supposed to hurt after you get your wisdom teeth out?

I got all 4 out on Monday and I still haven't been able to eat anything but smoothies. Until today it was because I could barely open my mouth from all the swelling. Now I just have no appetite because apparently my body has gotten used to the whole not-eating thing. As of this morning the swelling is pretty much gone, but the stitches still make it super uncomfortable to swallow. It isn't even the sewn-up parts that hurt, it's where the stitches are tied off. It looks like they come between my molars and they're really annoying-feeling. It's weird. I've never had any kind of surgery before though so I have no idea what's supposed to be normal. I have a post-exam appointment in two days so I don't know why I'm bothering to ask, but... you know.

Answers:

i had my wisdom teeth taken out just last year, so i feel sorry for you, because it is not a good experience. your mouth will probally hurt for awhile, at least a week if not longer. i also did not eat much due to the medicine, i just slept alot. Try eating soft foods, such as soups, mashed potatoes, and smoothies such as you are doing now. Although, I hope you are not eating the smoothies with a straw, because the sucking could cause your stitches to be removed. It seems by your description that everything is normal, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
