Adult braces?!

Question: I have too many teeth for my mouth and they are also too big, especially the top front two teeth. I am having 4 wisdom teeth removed soon to make more room. Other than that my teeth are healthy, no fillings and the ones that show are more or less even-ish (I have pouty lips, so it doesn't all show). I cannot close my mouth properly though and look very goofy or annoyed when smiling (which I hate as other people think I'm in a bad mood when I'm not). As a result, over the years I have taken to keeping my mouth half open all the time (hard to explain) as it aches to keep my mouth closed over my teeth. But it really makes my jaw and head ache and as I can't hold my mouth shut, it means I always have dry, split lips, too much saliva and always looked confused. I find it hard to pronounce certain words too. I don't mind the pain so much, but I want to close my mouth properly. Would braces work at my age (22)? Both upper and lower teeth need pushing back and my bunny teeth made smaller.

I feel for you because I wore braces for 2 1/2 years to correct some of the same problems. You can wear braces at any age, just make sure that once you have your beautiful smile to wear your retainer, because your teeth can always shift, especially at night! Also they can sand down your front teeth to a certain extent to make them smaller and fix overbites. Try going to a few orthodontics offices to get some free quotes before you make your decision. My mouth also had too little room for my teeth so they pulled four healthy adult teeth and my wisdom teeth, and it all worked out for me! Good luck, hope this helps.

My mom got braces when she was 40 something. She had an extra tooth and when it was removed she needed braces. Her teeth are beautiful, you should be fine.

if you don't mind braces then ya.... if your lover doesn't mind either, then go for it! mine took just a few days over two years. good luck!

i think that braces would work for you, but i think braces will look "good" on an adults. it's fine with you if you want, but i have an alternative you could choose. there's this thing called invisalign. just read about it. im using it right now, btw, im 18, and it's great. im not bothered by the bits of metal in my teeth. check out their site:

www.invisalign.com

hope everything is fine!

Yes braces work for any age.
As for making you teeth smaller... no. It will allow for correct alignment of your teeth so the teeth mesh correctly when closed.
So fear not on the age bit or the closing.
and as for the "bunny teeth" problem you can get them filed if there that big of a problem. Its not uncommon nor is it painfull.
So i suggest that you get on the braces idea and see a good Orthodontist and get an overview. It will be worth it rather than going thru what your going thru.

Good luck!

Do think that braces will make ur teeth smaller...
No honey...
if the problem is that ur teeth are big and just that, I mean that there is no protrusion in ur teeth and no bad alignment...
i think u r not in need for braces..
and the veneer morks may help u more... u can go to a conservative dentist and ask him about the veneers and how it would be in ur mouth.... u'll find that better....

Yes, by all means, you should have braces! Many adults are having braces now and the techniques have improved greatly over the last several years, so that teeth can move faster with minor discomfort. You will need to have an assessment at the orthodontist where you will be told your options.

From your description of having too many teeth and not being able to close your lips over them, it sounds like you may need some permanent teeth removed to create the space for all your other teeth to fit. This really isn't scary; in fact my own braces were done that way and I have done that for my child too.

You are very young still and if you had the braces done, you would have a beautiful smile the rest of your life. Believe me, it is so worth it! I have seen young people such as yourself blossom into self-confident smiling young adults and it is very rewarding.
