THe dentist?!

Question:

THe dentist?

I am 12 and i have never had a cavity but i dont know i just think i have one .
My parents set up an appointment next week and i dont like pain in the mouth.
My dad sais the numb your mouth by priking your gum with a needle. Does that hurt?
He also said that they have to drill does that hurt.
then filling it up. does that?
Is their any way of telling if i have a cavity at home.
Tell me how it hurts remember i am 12 so please think about that

Answers:

You'll be juuuuust fine. You cant really tell if you have a cavity at home, except being sensitive to hot or cold or just getneral pain.

If you do have one, yes, they will "prick" your gum..the first time its somewhat uncomfortable, but doesnt "hurt" The best thing is to not watch when they'll do it- just like any shot.

as far as the actual filling itself.. doesnt hurt at all... thats why they numb you. Ask for the gas too, its the best. I start out with the gas which makes me relaxed, and then they give me the shot. My dentist give me headphones to listen to while they do it, now they have tv's too. It helps keep your mind off things. I'm 23, but ive had a few cavities in my day. My first one was when i was about 10. You wont cry or anything like that.. You literally start to feel numb as soon as the medicine goes in. Good luck kid, its not as bad as you'll think.
