Need to get Wisdom Teeth Cut out! Help!?!

Question: Well i had braces for two years and now my dentist said that there is absolutely no room for my wisdom teeth and that i need to get all 4 of them CUT out very soon... I have been delaying this but lately i've noticed that my retainer is getting tighter and tighter every night. I am pretty much terrified of this procedure and was wondering how bad it hurts and how long does it take to recover, and any tips on how to help with pain/sleep/eating anyhing. Also i have heard from half of people that it kills and half of other people that it's nothing? Help!?

B: how long it takes to recover depends on how 'impacted' the teeth are and how extensive the surgery will be. if they can be popped out in 2-3 minutes then the recover will be shorter than if the dentist needs to remove some bone around the tooth. but estimate recovery from 2 days to 1 week. recovery meaning soreness, swelling, mild discomfort, etc. you should be able to eat, speak, and drink most things normally after a couple of days.

tips on recovery: have the dentist prescribe some good meds before you leave and take one as soon as you fill it before most of the anesthesia wears off. this way the swelling and discomfort will gradually come in versus a brick wall. avoid crunchy foods (ie chips, crackers), sodas, straws, smoking, spitting, and alcohol. it's important to keep the area clean, but don't scrub it the day of the surgery. gently rinse with warm salt water.

half that kills: of course it can be pretty invasive and i'll seen ppl, esp women, who react worse to tooth extraction than others. but just relax before and after the procedure, get some good meds, avoid smoking, and rest for two days afterwards, and you'll be back on your feet in no time.

TTG

you will be asleep not feel it the pain after will be controlled with meds will heal pretty quick had 2 cut out

Don't panic about it. I had all 4 of mine cut out. Yes some people claim it was awful some not. I think it was unpleasant for the first day or two but you heal quickly. Its not as bad as it sounds, really, don't worry about it. It will be over and done with before you know it, and your family will spoil you while you recouperate!

The anticipation is the worst part. It does not hurt at all. Maybe they'll put you to sleep if you have insurance.

It's not that bad, I wasn't even put under when I got it done, they just numbed my mouth. all I felt was a couple tugs, which didn't hurt at all, and they had them out. when you do eat, just make sure that you get any food out of your mouth, the dentist will tell you that too i'm sure. After they pulled it, they gave me a prescription for tylenol with codeine, that helped as it was healing, but it didn't hurt a lot. Granted I only had two wisdom teeth, the bottom two just didn't grow. You'll be fine, don't worry too much and don't psych yourself out. they shouldn't need to cut anything, I had braces on when mine were pulled.
