Question about temporary filling stuff?!

Question:

Question about temporary filling stuff?

OK, so I'm 16, haven't seen the dentist in 3 years but I've got an appointment to see one in 6 weeks, I booked it last week. But today I've started to get toothache in a tooth that's got a pretty bad cavity in it, it's a bottom back tooth and it's got a kind of brown hole in the middle going towards the back of the tooth and the two back corners of the tooth have sort of rotted away.

It's not a REALLY bad pain, maybe 5 out of 10, but it's there all the time.

I was wondering if that temporary filling stuff you can buy in the pharmacy is any use? I know it's supposed to be for when fillings fall out but could I use it on my cavity even though it's not a proper hole from a filling? Would it stop it hurting? And how long does it last for? Would it last until my appointment in 6 weeks?

Answers:

temp fillings aren't good for pain relief. there is this stuff that you can get at the drugstore. it comes with these tiny pellet cottonballs you stick in this clove type syrup. i just looked it up on cvs.com it's called Red Cross Toothache Medication Drops. Tastes like hell, but it relieves the pain the best. just try not to get it on your tongue. if you do you'll have to spit alot, but it comes with tweezers so you can get it right in your cavity. i never had any luck with the temp filling.
