Will drinking soda make the stitches in my gums disappear to soon?!

Question:

Will drinking soda make the stitches in my gums disappear to soon?

I got my 2 bottom wisdom teeth pulled out last wed.. I have a Mug (root beer) and Vanilla Coke here and I'm wondering if I should drink one, considering they stitched up my gums with dissolving stitches. Would the stitches dissolve to fast and not allow my gums to heal completely?

Also: one of my stitches completely disappeared last night, and others here on Y Answers said it's because I chewed more on that side. Would the soda infect my gums? (I'm taking 3 amoxycillin a day)

Answers:

I have worked in dental for 5 years now. And I also had my wisdom teeth extracted last year. It is probably fine to drink what you want. Just be sure to irrigate the area with the syringe that they should have provided to you with warm water. And remember a clean mouth heals faster... so considering that sodas usually have a lot of sugar and acid, which produce more bacteria(which causes cavities), I would drink things like that a little sparingly.
