It's been years since I've worn my retainers, would they still work if I started!

Question:

It's been years since I've worn my retainers, would they still work if I started using them again?

My teeth have shifted but not that much, would wearing my retainers again help straighten them out again?

Answers:

After so many years, I doubt the retainers will still fit.

DO NOT JAM THEM BACK ON. Forcing retainers that no longer fit onto your teeth will traumatize the tooth roots. The excessive force may cause inflammatory root resorption and destroy your tooth roots.

You best go see your orthodontist and see what can be done to re-straighten your teeth, but most likely you will need braces again. That's why retainers MUST be worn as prescribed to preserve the investment you made in straightening out your teeth in the first place.
