Weird jaw pain?!

Question: so i woke up this morning and i feel like i got punched in the jaw, i sleep alone so i know it didnt happen in my sleep unless i hit myself, but i cant open my mouth all the way and it really hurts when i chew. its in the back of my jaw so i dont suspect it being a tooth thats bothering me. and also this is probably not relavent but im 8 months pregnant. dont know if that has anything to do with it. im just paranoid. if anyone knows what could cause this or had a similar experience let me know. thanks!

I have had this problem myself quite a few times, and it turns out I dislocated my jaw while I was sleeping. I know it sounds like it would hurt enough to wake you up, but it can happen rather easily. The best thing to do is keep ice on it so the muscles dont swell up to much. Then try to open your mouth as wide as you can and push on the side that doesn't hurt, and push towards the side that does hurt to try to get it back in place. If you don't want to do that then I would go see a doctor, and have him/her do it. For the pain though ice and aleve is what I used.

Probably just TMJ. Take some ibuprophen (Advil, Aleve, etc). That should help. Good luck.

you may have been clenching your teeth in your sleep. That would make the muscles in the back of your jaw very sore - if you are a continual clencher you could have TMJ - keep an eye on the pain - if it doesn't lessen you may want to see a doctor, dentist or oral surgeon.

I had the same thing and it turned out that I had a small cavity in my back tooth that was causing and ifection in my jaw. there is a very simple way to tell if this is what it is. take a peice of ice and put ot on your back tooth. if you feel a rushing pain through your jaw you'll probably need a root canel, if not you could be clenching, or you could have dislocated your jaw in your sleep. or it could be locked jaw. just go get it checked out
