Getting braces the day of my audition...?!

Question:

Getting braces the day of my audition...?

I am getting braces on the 18th, which is the first day of auditions (and we have rehersal for two weeks before the show). I am getting braces in the morning, and then at 12 I have my auditions. Is it a bad idea for me to get braces and go to auditions on the same day? Should I try and reschedule?

Answers:

Depends on what sort of audition this is and what sort of person you are.
If it is a professional thing you might think of re-scheduling, but then you are also obligated to tell them that you will be getting braces, since you are usually cast on your appearance as well as talent (unless you are a shoo-in with the big wigs).
Braces are painful when you first get them. On top of that you have alot of metal in there that keeps wanting to grate the flesh on the inside of your cheeks off. Ok, I may be making it worse than it sounds, but all of it will take some time to get used to. Are you the type of person that will whine and moan during your audition? because I would never cast anyone like that in my production personally. If you can, and pardon the pun, grin and bear it, then suck it up and git 'er dun. The sooner they are on the sooner they come off. If it were me an I had any choice in the matter I would try to schedule it so the braces went on a week before the audition. That way I would have gotten a chance to get used to them.
